Day seven - Dagur sjö

Gudrun Lilja

Just came from Spark and it is 10 pm, had to check the printers if the "night" objects where printing out ok. Great to see the people passing by observing our "workers" and the wonders that are born every night.

Varð að kíkja í Spark svona rétt fyrir kosningarsjónvarp til að sjá hvernig næturvinna prentarana væri að prentast rétt. Ótrúlega gaman að sjá hvað vegfarendur eru forvitnir að sjá hvað verður til og hvernig það gerist.

Today the team will continue to work on the ideas already in process - sometimes their mind just wonders away with either a pencil in their hand, the sketch book on their lap or the computer in front of them. Then they dive into each others ideas and contribute, pair up or all dive in. For sure they are all learning from each other and exploring the possibilities that this new industrial revolution brings.

Í dag heldur teymið áfram við að þróa þær hugmyndir sem þegar eru komnar - stundum fer hugur af stað með blýhant og skyssubók eða við tölvuskjáinn en svo verður samtalið nauðsynlegt og þau byggja ofaná hugmyndir hvers annars, stundum tvö og tvö eða hópast saman í hugaflug lær af hvort öðru og velta fyrir sér möguleikum sem þessi nýja iðnaðarbylting kemur með.

We have had lots of curious visitors - does not matter if you are a five year old or 85 - at the worksop you find something that triggers your mind..

Það hafa margir góðir gestir kíkt á vinnnustofuna - hvort sem það er einhver fimm ára eða áttatíu og fimm ára þá virkjar heimsóknin í Spark hugarflug og eykur þekkingu....

Day six - Sjötti dagurinn

Gudrun Lilja

Today the team is thinking about the how the furnitures will be in the future using the possibility of 3D printing - The ask question like:

Is it possible to make functional furniture using the small desktop printers?

Will each chair or bed be a scan of your body and therefor only fit for the person using it?

Will a new part be printed in your chair as you grow?

How will the future bookshelf look like ?

Framtíðarhúsgögn

I-kea (internet Ikea)

To start to answer the question Is it possible to make functional furniture using the small desktop printers the Internet Ikea idea was born ....

Til að byrja að svara spuringinunni um hvort að hægt að prenta út samsett húsgögn sem virka út úr litlum þrívíddarprentara þá fæddist hugmyndin um vef Ikea ...

Here below are some ideas of 3D printed parts that assembles existing materials - you could print bootle connectors and build a green house, print a mould for plants to grow in or parts to build shelving system, hourglass or table supports....

Maybe this little "rocking" stool could grow with you and its "spine" will keep you balanced...

Þessi hugmynd hér af "ruggustól" gæti vaxið með þér og hryggjarsúlan á honum hjálpað til að halda góðu jafnvægi...

We will start the day by telling you a little about the SPARK design space that the workshop is taking place in - It is a great and unique design collective gallery and shop. We took some pictures this morning of some of the selection the offer.

After this workshop you might be able to buy some of the result at their webshop or just pop by at their space at Klapparstígur 33, 101 Reykjavík - the best place for Icelandic Design

Day five - Processing / dagur fimm - þróun

Gudrun Lilja

We took a time-laps over one hour when the Ultimaker was printing one piece...

People that visit the workshop have been asking about the programs used for drawing the ideas in the computer so we made a list of some available software that you can try out. Most of them have tutorials online.

Free 3D applications : Google Sketchup / Blender 3D / Autodesk 123D Design / Rhino (trial)

Modular modeling : Firefly / Arduino / Grashopper / Rhino

Paid programs : Modo / Maya / 3D Studio Max / Cinema 4D

Organic 3D programs : Sculptris / Mjdbox / Z-Brush

If you want to print our your designs you have to export the files as “stl” and upload the stl into the software that comes with each printer. (Makerware  for the Makerbot printers and Cura for the Ultimaker printer)

Day four - Building on ideas

Gudrun Lilja

Day four has passed and ideas are starting to take form. Today the team worked on building on each other work and taking it one step further. Lot of people have been asking what kind of programs you need to draw in to be able to print your idea out in 3D. There are lot of different programs, both free and that you can buy. Tomorrow we will make a list of programs to give you some idea of how you can dive into this new industrial revolution.

We took a 2 hours time-lapse video during the workshop today and took some pictures of what was made today.
